VEEM Limited, Australian manufacturer of VEEM Gyro roll stabilizer, announces an operating hours milestone for its VG120 model gyro stabilizer installed on Motor Yacht Tango. Operating since November 2016, the VG120 model has now accumulated 2000 hours of operational time.

During a visit to the yacht as part of a 2000 hour check-up, Paul Steinmann from VEEM says “it is really pleasing to return to Tango to find the gyro running smoothly. This is really satisfying validation of the product’s engineering and production quality.”

MY Tango is an aluminium displacement luxury motor built by Oceanfast Yachts in 2006. The yacht is based in Sydney Harbour, Australia and the owner selected a VEEM Gyro installation to reduce annoying rolling motions caused by passing ferry wakes. In 2016 Tango underwent an extensive refit that included a 5 metre hull lengthening to 42.5m to include a helipad, entertaining deck, dance floor and beach club. The VEEM Gyro VG120 was installed during this refit.

Captain of MY Tango, Russell King, says “The gyro went into service smoothly and has been performing reliably since. Sloshing in the pool is significantly reduced which has impressed our regular guests. The gyro has significantly improved the comfort onboard MY Tango at anchorages where ferry wakes frequently annoyed our guests. Guest transfer to and from tender at the beach club is now faster, safer, and more comfortable due to the more stable swim platform.”

The VEEM Gyro stabilizers are an amazing device that bolts into the vessel’s hull. There are no protrusions through the hull into the water. The device utilizes the gyro-dynamics of a high-speed steel flywheel spinning in a vacuum controlled chamber. The VEEM Gyro units deliver their massive roll stabilizing torques whilst producing almost no noise or vibration. Early installations have even been successfully located beneath guest cabin beds.

The VEEM Gyro product range is suitable for installation on luxury motor yachts, Defense and paramilitary patrol vessels, naval mine-hunters, fast crew transfer vessels serving the expanding offshore windfarm industry, and commercial offshore supply and workboats. The three products in the range will suit installation in vessels with displacement (weight) from 60 to 3500 tonne.

In addition to its product offerings, VEEM also manufactures stabilizing fins for the US Navy LCS vessel program, Austal Ships fast ferries, and both the Australian Naval and Customs Service Patrol Boat fleets. The VEEM Gyro is the company’s most recent innovative marine product development.
